About Dr. Esther M. Getambu

Dr. Esther Muthoni Getambu is a highly esteemed Consultant Physician and Kidney Specialist with over three decades of experience in nephrology and internal medicine. Based in Mombasa, Kenya, Dr. Getambu has dedicated her career to providing exceptional medical care, particularly in the fields of nephrology and renal health.

A graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Getambu furthered her expertise with a Master’s in Medicine specializing in Nephrology. She also completed a prestigious British Council Fellowship at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne’s Freeman Hospital, where she gained advanced training in nephrology and transplant medicine.

Throughout her career, Dr. Getambu has been recognised for her contributions to healthcare with honours such as the Head of State Commendation in 1998. She has held various leadership roles, including National Coordinator of ESACOP, Advisor to the Kenya Bureau of Standards for Hospitals, and Medical Advisor for the All African Games in Morocco.

 

Dr. Getambu’s clinic is committed to offering personalised and comprehensive care to patients, with a particular focus on kidney health and chronic disease management. Her vast experience, coupled with her compassionate approach, ensures that patients receive the highest standard of medical care.

  • Renal Services Development: Pioneered and managed the establishment of Renal services at Coast General Hospital, including the creation of the Dialysis and Cancer units, significantly improving patient care and access to specialized treatment.
  • Nephrology and Cancer Unit Initiation: Played a pivotal role in the initiation and advancement of Nephrology care and the Cancer unit at Coast General Hospital, setting a benchmark for medical excellence in the region.
  • AntiDoping Involvement: Actively contributed to antidoping initiatives as a member of the National Antidoping Task Force, collaborating with the Ministry of Sports to uphold integrity in sports.
